A first look at the latest research on Donor-Advised Funds

A generational transfer is underway in the U.S. that is both shifting wealth and reshaping family philanthropy. More and more, families are using Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) to manage their charitable giving.

In 2022 alone, more than $85 billion was contributed to DAFs by individuals and families with charitable intent. DAFs are changing the game for advisors and nonprofit giving officers when it comes to strategic and impactful conversations about generational giving and family legacy.

This session, co-hosted by Patrick Schmitt, Co-CEO of FreeWill, and Lisa Barr, Senior Director and Head of U.S. West of the National Philanthropic Trust, will highlight the latest trends in Donor-Advised Funds and their implications for nonprofits in 2025.

In this session, we’ll cover:

  • The trends driving DAF giving
  • An early analysis of NPT’s 2024 DAF Report
  • Expert fundraising tips to benefit from the rise in DAFs
